A trope is the narrative mechanism that keeps you watching: the promise of a twist, of a reveal, of a reconciliation. At Getyzap each trope has its own definition, synonyms and inclusion rules, so that "Secret identity", "Hidden identity" and "Multiple identities" don't turn into three duplicate categories.
Revenge
The protagonist was betrayed, humiliated or destroyed and spends the series turning the tables. It works when the payback is proportional to the suffering; it fails when the humiliation repeats without progress. See Revenge titles.
Contract marriage
Two strangers marry by agreement and the fake relationship becomes real. Also called modern arranged marriage or substitute bride. See titles.
Secret identity
Someone powerful pretends to be ordinary. The pleasure is in the moment the mask falls. Includes "secretly powerful" and "CEO in disguise". See titles.
Rebirth
The protagonist goes back in time with the memory of her previous life. Includes "second chance" and "time travel back". See titles.
Billionaire CEO
The love interest owns everything. A foundational trope of the genre; it rarely carries a series on its own. See titles.
Enemies to lovers
They start out hating each other and end up together. The trope requires the hatred to have a reason. See titles.
